I´m moving, some thoughts

Hello there! Long time no see..

I haven´t written a post on here in over a year but am thinking of publishing quick and shorter articles like this one (next to more thought-out and longer posts) more frequently, whenever I see fit.

What I want to talk to you about today

I´m moving! I moved out from my parents exactly one year ago and in the way life continues it´s time for a new place, a new chapter in my life.

It´s actually quite the long story but long story short my parents purchased a place and were so kind to ask me if I wanted to move in – You would think it´s a definite yes right away, and it kind of was.. but not really.

What would be your thought process? Because while I was happy for my parents and more than grateful for them to ask and consider me moving in, I also thought of how much I like my current place and my main point which is: It´s sort of like moving back home.

But after a few conversations and much thinking I noticed: No, no it´s not. It´s such an amazing opportunity that I cannot pass, especially when I tell you more about the place I´m now living in.

Oh and one more thing which was very important me, I will be renting from my parents, so there is a clear boundary set between us and to keep a “distance”. Basically a new place, (nearly) same conditions as for every renter…. with a few perks of course.

At my current apartment there are a few negatives to consider. It´s renting on time, if something changes I could lose the apartment within 4 months which hinders me from investing money and time in bigger renovation projects. The apartment is the second story of a typical german house meaning it wasn´t designed for renters but to use as additional space for the people originally living here.

That means there is sometimes still the feeling of not 100% being on your own (difficult to describe tbh) because I still have the door connecting my flat to the downstairs unit.

It then heats up like an oven in the summer, is quite old and the owners live just a stone throw away, always able to look right into my apartment.

All in all those are minor things but they made the decision easier for me.

The new place is bigger, has a third room that I will be able to use as office and what I´m most excited about: The new apartment is my family´s property so I can (nearly) do whatever I want – And oh boy do I have plans! I´m so so grateful and excited because I can now choose my ideal flooring and I will renovate the whole kitchen – a dream kitchen in progress, with farm house sink and everything.

Ok, that´s basically everything I wanted to share. I will keep you updated on Instagram and share the whole journey with you, from start to finish.

Tanks for reading and hopefully seeing you rather soon on here again!

– Christopher
